Addis Abab (Halbeeg) Ethiopian Prime Minister, Dr. Abiy Ahmed is scheduled to attend a rally to appreciate the new reforms tabled by his administration.
The rally which is orchestrated by civil society group is to support of the reform agenda, he promised to deliver while in the office.
Addis Standard, Addis Ababa based Newspaper quoting officials said the Prime Minister will be delivering a speech at Meskel square.
A voluntary committee organizing the rally said all necessary preparations for security are taken to make sure the rally is held safe.
“A solidarity rally in support of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s reform agenda is to take place in Addis Ababa on Saturday, June 23rd,” organizers said.
According to the organizers, the rally will be the first one held in support of Dr. Ahmed’s government since he assumed the office in April, is expect the rally to be attended by more than 2 million people.
The rally scheduled to take place at Meskel square will be followed by similar rallies in areas surrounding, according to the organizers.
Among the voluntary committee members is a former ambassador, Seyoum Teshome who was jailed twice under Ethiopia’s two State of emergencies.

Prime Minister Ahmed Abiy has freed dozens of jailed journalists and bloggers since he took the office.
The Ethiopian government also dropped charges against activists, critics, and oppositions jailed by the previous governments.
The authorities on Friday unblocked over 246 websites and TV channels, a move welcomed by international media watchdog.
Chief of staff Fitsum Arega announced the news on Twitter saying freedom of expression is a foundational right.
The unlocked websites included many run overseas in the United States and European Countries.
