MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somali National Army has vowed to stage deadly offensives against al-Shabaab barely hours after the group’s fighters hit SNA base with explosives.
In an interview with the State-owned media, commander of the inventory unit of the Somali army General Yussuf Raage Odawa said the forces will intensify operations against al-Shabaab in lower Shabelle region.
He stated the recent operations targeting the group led to the liberation of several towns and villages.
The commander vowed that the extensive military campaign will continue until the country is free from Al-Shabaab.
He noted that there is a bigger national strategy to overcome the challenges of al-Shabaab and other armed groups in the country.
“we will not rest until we pay a visit to every single al-Shabaab hideout in Lower Shabelle and flash them out,” he said.
Commenting on Wednesday’s al-Shabaab attack on SNA base in Awdhegle district, the commander said the group suffered heavy casualties.
“They were defeated and fled with casualties. The area is under the control of the army. We had an Intelligence report that the group was planning to stage on the army,” he boasted.
Wednesday’s attack was said to have caused casualties on both sides with some reports confirmed deaths of six military officers and a journalist who was staying at the camp during the attack.
Separate attack by SNA on al-Shabaab, SNA confirmed that al-Shabaab’s spokesperson, Ali Mohamud rage sustained severe injuries during the raid.
