MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – The Somali National Army said its forces have seized a vehicle with explosives in Lower Shabelle region
In a statement, Somali military said the soldiers conducted security operation in Ad-addey village near Afgoye town which lies 30km away from Somali capital.
The military said the vehicle was headed to Mogadishu and they arrested several militants during the operation.
The development comes barely a day after a car laden with explosives exploded in Somali capital, killing at least two people and destroying over a dozen vehicles.
Al-Shabaab has claimed the responsibility for the attack saying the target was a security checkpoint near Somali parliament building.
The group which once controlled large swath territories including the capital was weakened after years of fierce fighting with Somali military backed by AMISOM troops.
Al-Shabaab adopted hit and run tactics against Somali military outside Somali capital while it is fighters carry out deadly bomb attacks in major towns.
