MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somali National Army (SNA) has said its soldiers killed at least 130 al-Shabaab fighters in security operations in the last three weeks.
In a statement on Monday, SNA confirmed that they will continue operations against al-Shabaab fighters in Middle Shabelle region.
“More than 130 Shabab were killed in the current operations,” SNA said in a brief statement.
During the operation, the army has also recovered weapons and other military equipment which the group has been using to mount attacks in the region.
The military said the operation was aimed at ensuring free movement of Somali people on the main supply route of Mogadishu-Jowhar towns.
Al-Shabaab lost control of Somali capital in 2011 after days long fierce fighting with Somali military backed by African Union Mission in Somalia (Amisom) forces.
The group now controls villages in southern Somalia.
