MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somali military in cooperation with Southwest regional forces have rescued eight civilians from al-Shabaab following security operations in southern Somalia.
SNA and Southwest regional forces have stormed this morning Qodqod village just 35km outside Dinsor town following public tips off that al-Shabaab fighters abducted locals.
The attack prompted heavy clashes between the forces and al-Shabaab fighters which lasted for about an hour.
Dinsor district commissioner, Abdisalam Haji Diyaar who spoke to media said the operation was successful and the forces managed to recaptured the village.
“Somali military to liberated Qodqod village, and rescued the people previously abducted by al-Shabaab. The normalcy has returned to area and it under the control of the army,” he said.
Abdisalam who confirmed death of two al-Shabaab fighters and injuries of several fighters has declined to comment on casualties on SNA.
Meanwhile, Al-Shabaab has not yet commented on the clashes and lost of the village.
Recently Somali military backed by African Union Mission in Somalia AMISOM has intensified operations against al-Shabaab in central and southern Somalia.
