MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somali military backed by African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) troops has recaptured a strategic town in Middle Shabelle region.
SNA soldiers have taken control of Raghe-Ele town which lies 90km away from Somali capital.
In a statement, Somali military said their forces managed to kick al-Shabaab fighters out of the town following brief clashes.
The military claimed to have killed several Al-Shabaab fighters in the fighting.
Al-Shabaab fighters reportedly took the town after SNA soldiers vacated the area.
The development comes barely a day after Ugandan peacekeepers killed 189 al-Shabab militants and arrested two senior commanders in an offensive in Lower Shabelle region on Friday.
Lt. Col. Deo Akiiki, Uganda’s deputy military spokesperson in a statement issued here said Uganda’s contingent of African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) raided al-Shabab hideouts in the thickets of Sigaale village, about 99.5 kilometers southwest of the capital Mogadishu.
Al-Shabaab militant group has yet commented on the killing of its fighters in Southern Somalia.
