BARSANGUNI ( Halbeeg News) – Somali National Army (SNA) said its forces arrested al-Shabaab suspect in an operation in southern Somalia.
Speaking to the media, SNA commander in Barsanguni village, Mohamed Badal Hassan said the man detained during an operation staged against al-Shabaab in Lower Jubba region.
The suspect who was identified Ibrahim Lujindo Mohamed was said to have been fighting alongside al-Shabaab for ten years.
“The military detained an al-Shabaab fighters who was among those fought against Kenyan forces in El-Adde town,” said the commander.
The commander called on other al-Shabaab fighters to surrender and make used of the amnesty the government offered to the group’s fighters.
“We will treat him well and we urged others to surrender and leave the group, they will be safe and treated well,” he pledged.
Al-Shabaab has not yet commented on the siezure of it’s fighter in southern Somalia.
Somali special forces backed by US troops have also intensified planned operations against the targets of the armed al-Shabaab in the south of the country.
Al-Shabaab group which lost the control of Mogadishu in 2011 has been carrying attacks against Somali forces and their allied African troops.
Despite losing many towns to Somali military-backed AMISOM troops, the group still controls several towns in South and central Somalia.
