BARDERE ( Halbeeg News) – Somali forces on Monday killed three al-Shabab militants in the country’s southern region of Gedo, officials said Monday.
At least four al-Shabaab fighters have been killed and several reportedly injured after the group clashes with Somali army in southern Somalia.
Somali forces have recently stepped operations against al-Shabaab in the country’s southern region of Gedo.
Speaking the media, Ali Mohamed Hassan, commander of Somali forces unit 49 said army killed the fighters in an operation which took place in the outskirts of Bardhere town.
The military commander confirmed that Somali National Army on Monday recaptured two villages.
The villages liberated were identified as
Bulaweyn and Bakal villages.
“The forces launched operations to smoke al-Shabaab out of the region. During the operation, SNA soldiers raided bases al-Shabaab, prompting brief gun battle between the sides before al-Shabaab flee from the areas,” he said.
Hassan also noted that a soldier sustained injuries during the battle.
The commander vowed that the operations against the group will be continuous until areas under the control of al-Shabaab are liberated.
He urged the public to cooperate with the government forces in securing the region.
