MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somali forces killed six al-Shabaab fighters in southern Somalia following security operation, Somali military confirmed on Sunday.
According to the radio, the military launched an offensive against the group near Jammame town prompting clashes with the group.
During the military successfully managed to defeat the group.
The Radio reported that al-Shabaab fighters fled the area with several injuries.
“Somali National Army killed over Six Alshabaab and injured nine others near Jamame town where the troops captured several villages in North of Kismayo town,” the radio said in a Twitter post.
In a separate statement, Abdi Nur Ibrahim, Jubbaland security forces spokesman said the joint security operations conducted by state’s forces backed by Somali army led to the liberation of Gubadle, Yeri, Jay, Leri villages in the north of Kismayo town.
He added that the allied forces also recovered weapons and detained members of the militants who were injured during the operation.
The development comes on the heel of well-organized operations Al-Shabaab fighters in Lower Shabelle region which Somali military recaptured villages from al-Shabaab.
