MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somali military has killed seven Al-Shabaab fighters in Middle Shabelle following fierce fighting, officials confirmed.
The fighting flared up after heavily armed al-Shabaab fighters ambushed SNA convoy from Basra village.
A military official who spoke to SNA radio said the forces killed the seven fighters and injured scores of the fighters.
On SNA side, he confirmed injuries of three soldiers.
The fighting comes hours after SNA arrested eight al-Shabaab in an operation in Basra village.
The operations have lasted for several before the military soldiers pull out.
“We have cleared the road linking to Afgoye town, eight militants were arrested. The areas is now peace as al-Shabaab fighters fled,” said a military official.
Somali national army backed by African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) intensified operations to drive away al-Shabaab fighters in south and central Somalia.
Al-Shabaab which once in control of large swarth territories including the capital city, Mogadishu had much of its territories following heavy clashes with Somali military and AMISOM troops.
The group now carries out deadly bomb attacks in major towns as well as hit and run attacks on SNA and AMISOM bases.
This week, the newly appointed prime minister Mohamed Hussein Roble vowed to increase operations to annihilate al-Shabaab fighters from the horn of Africa nation.
