MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somali elite forces have killed several Al-Shabaab fighters including a ring leader in southern Somalia.
According reports carried by the military owned radio, the fighting flared up after raided a village controlled by al-Shabaab.
Officials say fighting took place Arabow village just 50km away from Buale town of Lower Jubba region.
Among the fighters killed in the fighting is Hassan Sufyan Qorey, a commander of al-Shabaab militants in the village.
Somali federal military backed troops and other forces from the states have intensified operations against al-Shabaab fighters ahead of the elections.
In recent months, SNA liberated number villages in central and southern Somalia.
Al-Shabaab which was in control of large swarth territories including the capital have been weakened following military operations by SNA and AMISOM troops.
