MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – At least 20 al-Shabaab fighters have been killed and several others sustained injuries after clashes with Somali national army.
In a statement, SNA chief, Odawa Yussuf Raghe said Somali forces have recovered weapons and destroyed bases of al-Shabaab group.
“The Somali National Army (SNA) last night and today carried out planned operations in the El-Ba’ad village of Hiiraan region where the militants were based, killing 20 Al-Shabaab militants and recovered weapons,” SNA chief, Odawa Yussuf Raghe.
The remarks of Odawa come a day after SNA killed 100 al-Shabab fighters in security operations in Middle Shabelle region.
SNA backed by African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) had liberated many villages and towns including the capital after days-long clashes with al-Shabaab fighters.
Al-Shabaab group was routed from Mogadishu in 2011 by the allied forces and has had to abandon most of its strongholds, but it still controls vast rural areas and remains the key threat to peace in Somalia.
The group also carries out deadly attacks against SNA and Amisom bases outside Somali capital.
