MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somalia’s elite Danab forces have killed 15 Shabab militants and injured several others in the country’s southern Lower Juba region, Somali National Army (SNA) confirmed.
SNA spokesman Ali Hashi Abdi told journalists in Mogadishu said the forces destroyed al-Shabaab military bases in Jubbaland state.
“Our forces killed 15 Shabab militants, injured others and destroyed several hideouts in Lower Jubba region,” Abdi said.
The neutralization of al-Shabaab fighters come a day after Galmudug forces backed by Somali national army (SNA) recaptured Amara town after fierce fighting with al-Shabaab fighters.
Early this week, the military in central Somalia also claimed to have recaptured the strategic town, Ba’adweyne from Al-Shabaab.
Ba’adweyne town in Galmudug state changed hands in recent weeks.
Somalia stepped operations against al-Shabaab ahead of the country’s parliamentary and presidential elections.
