Somali National Army (SNA) have successfully intervened and stopped deadly inter-clan conflicts over resources.
Several people have been killed in clashes between members of two clans in Hiiran and Galgaduud regions of Central Somalia.
perennial clashes over the boundaries have led into the loss of human lives and destruction of properties in past decades as the pasture and water resources get scarce.
Mohamed Ahmed Teredishe, the commander of the 52nd battalion of SNA said the national army successfully quelled hostilities between the two clans.
Mr. Teredishe blamed Al-Shabab fueling clashes between the clans saying the group entices animosity.
“Al-Shabaab fuels the clashes between the clans. The government forces intervene in the situation. The fighting between the clans lives of people both sides,” Teredishe said.
The commander said the both sides accepted to resolve their difference internally.
“The brotherly clans accepted end their hostility through mediation and not bloodshed,” he said.
The clashes between the nomadic clans came over access to water reservoirs – a long-standing source of conflict in a nation hit by regular cyclical drought.
Arguments over land use, boreholes and pasture have perennially contributed to fighting among Somali clans who are largely pastoralists.
