WASHINGTON (Halbeeg News) -Somali forces have defused several rounds of landmines and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in Lower Shabelle region.
Speaking to Somali media, Ahmed Maslah Hussein, the commander of 14th Battalion of SNA said the forces launched operation to clear EIDs allegedly buried along the road leading to Awdhegle town.
“The SNA engineering teams found and neutralized of number rounds of landmines, roadside bombs and IEDs in different areas,” he said.
The Commander vowed that they will continue operations to liberate villages in Lower Shabelle region.
“The operation will be intensified in the area until all the terrorists have been flushed out,” he said. “The inability of al-Shabab to prevent operations in Lower Shabelle region shows the fragile state that the terrorist organization is in.”
The government forces have intensified security operations in the recent past against al-Shabaab extremists in the southern regions.
The operations are being carried out in collaboration with troops from the African peacekeeping mission and the U.S. highlight the increasing capability of the government security forces to secure the nation.
