MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – A Somali military court has sentenced a military soldier to death for killing a civilian in the capital Mogadishu in September, an official said.
The court found Omar Muhudin Mohamud guilty of robbery and murder of Abdullahi Mohamed Hassan in Bondhere district.
“The court has found Omar Muhudin Mohamud guilty of murdering Abdullahi Mohamed Hassan. After we received different eyewitness testimonies, the court convicted Omar, and ordered death sentence for him,” Colonel Hassan Ali Nur Shute, the armed forces military tribunal director, said.
According to the prosecutors, Abdullahi was heading his home when the convict accosted him and tried him robe him but the victim repelled, forcing Omar to shoot and kill Abdullahi.
The military officer had been arrested by the police hours after the killing and was taken to custody, according to the court.
