MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somali military court has today executed three senior Al-shabaab operatives by firing squad in Mogadishu.
Mumin Hussein Abdullahi, the deputy military court prosecutor said the military court in Mogadishu ordered the execution of three Al-Shabaab members after it established they were directly involved or facilitated various attacks in the city.
“Today, we executed the convicts including Mohamed Omar Jirow aka Dr. Fanah, Mohamed Abdulle Abkow known as Bimalow and Sharif Mohamed Barkhadle Ayaanle aka Jego,” Abdullahi said.
Two of the executed men were former members of the Somali Armed Forces, while the third was a senior Al-Shabaab operative who posed as a doctor.
Ayanle, a 53-year-old former captain in the SNA carried out an explosion at Mogadishu Mall on 4th February which claimed 16 lives and injured 38 others.
The military court in Mogadishu said the the second convict Bimalow, 36 masquared as a First Lieutenant but was later denounced by the military.
He was convicted of carrying out an explosion at a restaurant in Mogadishu on 28 May 2019 which killed 11 people and wounded 16 others. The court also said Bimalow facilitated access for Al-Shabaab fighters to Aden Adde Airport in Mogadishu on 23 March 2022 resulting in the death of one soldier.
The third convict, Jiirow identified himself as Dr. Fanah. The court said Jiirow also took several fake titles as government official.
The fake doctor, the military court said carried out twin explosions at a restaurant in Mogadishu which killed 20 people and wounded 11 others. Jiirow was also found guilty of an attack at a football stadium in the outskirts of Mogadishu which killed two people.
On 22 February 2022, the court said Jiirow helped a suicide bomber Carey out an explosion targeting a electoral delegate in Mogadishu resulting in the death of one soldier and injury of 11 other people.
