MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – At least 17 al-Shabab fighters have been killed dozen others sustained injuries after clashing with Somali military.
In a statement, Mohamed Abdullahi, commander of SNA’s 60th Unit said SNA forces fought al-Shabaab in Daynunay village in the outskirts of Baidoa town in the southern region of Bay.
“We have killed 17 al-Shabab fighters and more than 23 others also sustained injuries. Among those killed we’re commanders,” he said.
He added that four government soldiers including a senior official were killed during the fierce fight between the army and the militants.
The development comes barely two days after al-Shabaab fighters claimed to have killed five soldiers including a commander.
With support of troops from African Union, Somali military succeeded to pushed al-Shabaab militants out of many major towns including the capital, Mogadishu.
The group which now controls parts of south and central Somalia carries out deadly bomb attacks and raids on government offices, restaurants frequented by government officials, military bases and African Union troops.
