Kampala (Halbeeg)- Uganda and Somali military forces agreed to cooperate on Security to ensure regional peace and stability restored following a meeting between the Chief Commanders of the two countries.
The armies of the two countries have been jointly battling Al-Shabab fighters since 2007.
SNA Chief, Major General Jama’a Hussein on Friday paid a courtesy Call on his Ugandan Counterpart, Gen. David Mahoozi at Uganda’s Military headquarters at Mbuya town.
The two commanders discussed on wide range issues including the fight against Al-Shabab, security of the region as well the cooperation between the two countries’ armies.
Gen. Mahoozi stated country’s commitment to help Somalia build a strong army and take command of its security responsibility.
He said Ugandan military will play its role to ensure peace and stability restoration.
The commander pointed out that his country stands with Somalia and is ready to work with the Horn of the African nation in rebuilding Somali army which once was formidable military.
For his part, Hussein thanked Uganda for its continued support to Somali military and AMISOM.
He commended East African nation’s commitment to help Somalia saying Somali people were grateful to the Ugandan government for provision of capacity building towards SNA.
The East African country was the first to deploy troops under AMISOM into Somalia in March 2007. So far, Uganda has provided all four AMISOM Force.
The Ugandan contingent remains the largest contingent in AMISOM with over 6,000 troops based in Sector 1 which comprises of Banadir (Mogadishu), Middle and Lower Shabelle regions.
