MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News)– Somali National Army (SNA) said its forces nabbed an al-Shabaab ringleader during an operation in central Somalia amid SNA soldiers backed by clan militias intensified the fight against the group fighters.
In a statement, Somali military said its forces recaptured Barag-Shaikh Amir village following clashes with al-Shabaab fighters who were controlling the villages for years.
According to the officials, the forces arrested Abdi Ali Gadid who was reportedly hiding himself on the outskirt of the village.
Gadid was said to have been commanding al-Shabaab fighters who were controlling the village.
The arrested of Gadid comes barely a week after three youthful Al-Shabaab members surrendered to the authorities in Hudur District of Bakool region.
Somali government has intensified crackdown against al-Shabaab fighters in central and southern parts of the country.
The operation against the group yielded positive results and the government forces backed by the clan militias gained territories previously controlled by al-Shabaab.
