Three Al-Shabaab fighters were killed and several others wounded in battle with Somali National Army (SNA) and South West forces in Bay region.
The administration of Dinsor district in Bay region confirmed that the forces gunned down three Al-shabab fighters in a brief battle at Kanaana village.
Ibrahim Mohamed Noor, Dinsor district commissioner said the forces killed Al-shabab fighters after the attempted to carry out ambush attack against government forces conducting operations.
“These operations were conducted at Kanaana village in Bay region- it was jointly carried out by SNA and South West forces. The forces engaged brief fighting with Al-shabab members who waged ambush attack against the forces.
They tried to escape from the scene but the security forces managed to kill three of the fighters and wounded scores” said Ibrahim.
The commissioner said the group had recently stepped up its attacks to extort money from the locals.
Ibrahim stated that Al-shabab fighters pose security threats to local people in Kanaana village and surrounding areas by extorting taxes from the people in rural areas.
On the other, Ibrahim refuted claims by the relatives of the killed men by the joint forces that they were not members of Al-shabab fighters.
Recently, government forces have killed dozens of Al-shabab fighters in similar operations aimed to weaken the threats of the group in Hiran, Lower and Middle Jubba regions in Southern Somalia.
