Somali forces backed by troops of African Union Mission In Somalia (AMISOM) on Saturday launched operations aimed at reopening the main road linking Beledweyne and Bula-burde towns.
The troops and convoys of the allied forces were seen travelling along the road between the towns.
Hiiraan governor, Ali Jeyte Osman and other government officials are leading the offensive against Al-shabab fighters who imposed siege on Bula-burde town ever since the group lost the control of the town.
Somali military officials told the media that operations are intended to reopen and secure the road leading Bula-burde town.
The town is located 40km Southwest of the provincial headquarters of Hiiran region, Beledweyn.
In 2014, Somali soldiers supported by the continental forces took the control of the town which lies 240 kilometres north of Somali capital, Mogadishu.
Months after Alshabab lost the control of the town; the group imposed tight sanctions by blocking the main trade routes of Bula-burde town.
