MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somali National Army (SNA) said that its forces in cooperation with local militias succeeded to eliminated two al-Shabaab fighters in central Somalia.
According to a statement by SNA, the allied forces launched covert operations to hunt down al-Shabaab fighters in Barag Isse village in the Mudug region, prompting clashes with the group’s fighters.
“Our forces with the support of local fighters launched operations against Khawarij (Al-Shabaab). Two of Khawarij fighters were killed and their weapons seized,” the state reads in part.
The military also confirmed capture of an al-Shabab ringleader in the area, saying he will be brought before the justice after the conclusion of the investigation into case.
The leader who was apprehended during the operation was identified as Hashi Garad Ali.
SNA said Ali was known for his involvement in the extortion of livestock from rural communities.
