BELED-HAWO ( HALBEEG NEWS) – Six people are reported to have been killed following a suspected IED explosion at busy livestock market in the town of Beled Hawo in the Gedo region on Monday, officials have confirmed.
According to local officials, eight other people were wounded in the blast.
No group has yet claimed the responsibility for the attack but armed group al Shabaab which frequently carries out hit and run attacks in the region claimed responsibility for similar IED attacks that targeted the acting the convoy of the Somali Federal Government Education Minister Abdullahi Godah Bare on Sunday.
The Minister who was in the border town to launch education projects escaped unhurt when his convoy which was traveling between Beled Hawa and Dolow was hit by the blast.
Last week Somali forces backed by the AMISOM thwarted an attack by the group that targeted a military base in the Gedo region.
