NAIROBI ( Halbeeg News) – At least seven students have been killed and 59 others wounded after a classroom collapsed in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, according to Kenyan Red Cross and emergency services.
The incident at the two-storey Precious Talent Top School took place a few minutes after 7am local time on Monday.
St John Ambulance, whose rescuers were involved in the search and rescue efforts, said on Twitter that seven pupils were dead and scores injured.
Some 59 pupils were admitted at the Kenyatta National Hospital while the dead were taken to the City Mortuary.
According to Kenyatta National Hospital most of the pupils sustained soft tissue injuries mainly on their heads and ribs.
Officials added that most of the injuries are in stable condition.
The affected learners were aged between eight and 15 years.
Ministry of Education said investigations were underway on the incident.
The school owner Mr. Moses Wainaina termed the collapse as “accident”, which he blamed on Nairobi City County government.
