AFGOOYE (Halbeeg News) – At least seven people have been killed and eight others wounded in an attack by Al-Shabaab in Afgooye town near Somali capital of Mogadishu on Friday night.
The police said Somali forces repelled Al-Shabaab fighters who attacked the town from different directions.
Officials confirmed deaths of three Al-Shabaab fighters killed in the attack.
Omar Mohamed Hashi, a police officer who spoke to the media pointed out that relative calm returned to the country after Al-Shabaab attack was foiled.
” The situation is now calm at the comment, Al-Shabaab fighters were defeated. The forces are pursuing the perpetrators,” he said.
He noted that four soldiers were wounded in the clashes between Somali forces and Al-Shabaab.
“Four soldiers were injured in the attack, Al-Shabaab wanted to cause a lot of damage to the town, but it did not happen,” he said.
However, independence sources said four Somali soldiers were killed and six others injured in the raid.

Afgoye is an agricultural and strategic town in the Lower – Shabelle region, located 30km (18 miles) from Mogadishu.
In 2012, government soldiers and AMISOM troops drove al-Shabab out of the town following a major offensive.
