MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – A senior Somali military official was today sentenced to death for helping al-Shabaab to carry out bombings in Mogadishu.
A military court in Mogadishu has found captain Sharif Mohamed Barkhadle guilty of facilitating and smuggling of al-Shabaab VBIEDs into Mogadishu.
The convict was found guilty of buying weapons including two 60-round mortars and 40 rounds of ammunition for the al-Shabaab group.
The military Prosecutors alleged up to 27 people were killed in explosions from VBIEDs smuggled by Barkhadle.
According to the Court, Barkhadle was involved in VBIEDs that targeted Village Hotel (January 2019), Bar Italia (Feb 2019), and Agaweyne Restaurant (March 2019).
He also facilitated the attack on Lido beach (May 2019).
