MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – A Somali military commander was among two killed people killed in IED blast on the outskirts of Bal’ad town of Middle Shabeelle region.
A roadside bomb on Saturday targeted a military vehicle near Gololey on the outskirts of Bal’ad, an agricultural town 40 kilometers (24 miles) from the capital, Mogadishu.
Yasin Abdi Tohow, a top military commander and a soldier were killed in the explosion, according to the leader of Hirshabelle state.
Through a statement posted on its affiliate online media, al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack and said it killed the commander and wounded more than five other soldiers.
The attack comes less than a week after 17 civilians were killed and several other wounded in IED blast in vicinity.
These people were killed after a bus they were travelling in hit by IED buried on the roadside.
Al-Shabaab has been attacking Somali forces and AMISOM who frequently use along Jowhar-Mogadishu road.
