Mogadishu (Halbeeg News) – Isack Abdullahi, an al-Shabaab senior leaders and seven of his bodyguards were killed in southern Somalia.
According to a statement by Somalia’s defense ministry, Abdullahi and his fighters were killed in an airstrike which took place on the outskirts of Wajid town in Bakool region.
The ministry said Abdullahi was in the government’s wanted list for committing crimes against humanities as well as atrocities.
Al-Shabaab did not comment on the killing of its senior leader and his fighters in southern Somalia.
Somali government also claimed to have killed over 27 fighters in a successful operation in central Somalia.
The operations took place in Mililiqo, el Gambar, and Baalal Dheer villages in Galmudug State.
The targeted areas are al-Shabaab military bases. The technical vehicles were also reported to have been destroyed during the operations.
Somali military has intensified operations against al-Shabaab in south and central Somalia.
The government forces succeeded to liberate dozens of villages and towns in Hiiraan, Middle Shabelle, Mudug and Galgaduud region.
