KISMAYO ( Halbeeg News) – Somali security agencies in Jubbaland state received al-Shabaab figures who defected from the group on Monday.
According to Intelligence officials, Rayan Sheikh Nur alias Abu Hamza was head of the logistics for the group in Lower Jubba province before his defection.
The officials, however, did not disclose the location and the reason for the new defector.
Senior figures from the group have most recently surrendered to government forces in Jubbaland state mainly in Gedo and Lower Jubba provinces.
The group encountered ground offensive from Somali armed forces backed air support from US drone technology that hit training bases in the group’s stronghold in south-central Somalia.
A press statement from US Africa command last week vowed to continue its strikes against the group’s target in support of the Somali and AU peacekeeping troops in the country.
