MOGADISHU( Halbeeg News)- The federal government of Somalia has announced new measures aimed to beef up the security of the capital city of Somalia, Mogadishu.
Speaking at a security meeting held in Mogadishu on Friday, the security minister Mohamed Abukar Islow said the ministry will come up with new measures aimed to strengthen the security of Mogadishu that has witnessed a string of explosions and assassinations that claimed the lives of many people.
The minister stressed that the security agencies will be held accountable of any shortcoming in the efforts of tightening the security of the capital city and its suburb.
“ From tomorrow, all the security agencies including federal police, the ministry of internal security and Benadir regional administration are making efforts to come up with new measures and this is the start of a plan aimed to keep the security agencies accountable” said the minister.
“The forces will start regular patrol in the city as it use to be during the month of Ramadan, Mogadishu mayor and I [the minister of internal security] will hold weekly meeting meant to assess the outcomes of the measures” added the minister.
This new measures comes a week after the ministry has made a far-reaching changes in the administration and command of the security forces.
Over One thousand officers from the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), have been merged into Somali Police in a move intended to beef up the security of the capital city.
According to sources privy to the development, the move was intended to eliminate overlap and duplicate functions, the new framework will assign specific and distinct functions to all security agencies obliged to keep security.
