BIADOA (Halbeeg News) – Former Al-Shabaab deputy leader, Mukhtar Robow has vowed to fight against his former group if he secures a chance to lead Southwest state.
Mr. Robow has been cleared to run for the presidency of Southwest this week.
Speaking during a meeting with lawmakers and civil society members on Friday night in Baidoa town, Muktar said he will organize people of Southwest state to fight against Al-Shabaab.
“We have many enemies and unless we face them in a unified way, We cannot defeat them. Therefore We will organize ourselves to face Al-Shabaab if I win this election,” Mukhtar told the participants.
His remarks come days after Southwest regional election committee cleared him for running for the presidency of South-West state.
The elections are to take place later this month. Robow, who once appeared on the United States terror list will be coming up against an incumbent, Sharif Hassan Sheikh Aden, and other aspirants.
Robow, who is believed to be around 50 years old, says he entered the political race after being approached by voters in his hometown.
