MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somali prime minister, Mohamed Hussein Roble is today expected to travel to Kenya for the first since he assumed the office last year.
According to sources at the office of the Premier, the delegation led by Roble will be leaving from Mogadishu in the forthcoming hours.
The Prime minister will hold talks with Kenyan president, Uhuru Kenyatta. The two leaders will discuss agreed to issues of mutual interest in areas which include diplomatic relations, trade, education, agriculture, defence and security, tourism among others.
The development comes two days after Kenya foreign minister, Raychelle Omamo visited Mogadishu to deliver invitation to PM Roble.
“The minister delivered an official invitation from Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta to PM Roble which he accepted. Somalia and Kenya have longstanding historical relations, including diplomacy, security and economics,” Mohamed Ibrahim Moalimuu, the government spokesperson said in a statement.
Mohamed Abdirizak, Somali foreign minister and Omamo held bilateral talks on ways and mechanisms for strengthening relations and cooperation.
“It’s indeed a revitalized beginning for us as we seek to foster our diplomatic and bilateral ties,” Abdirizak said.
The two countries restored their bilateral relations two months ago after months long relations between the two states which had been frosty.
Both sides exchanged counter-accusations about interference with domestic affairs, territorial integrity over the Indian Ocean maritime dispute, miraa trade and security.
