MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – A relative of former Somali Prime Minister Ali Khalif Galaydh who died Thursday has called for independent investigation into the death of leader casting suspicion over what authorities said earlier.
Mukhtar Hamid, a relative of Galaydh told BBC Somali that the family has no confidence on the autopsy did by Ethio-Somali region authorities.
The authorities confirmed that ex-Somali PM Galaydh died of COVID19.
Authorities also said Galaydh was complaining of breathing difficulties.
But Hamid dismissed the report claiming former leader died of the infection, saying the family suspects the late Galaydh was poisoned.
“He had abdominal pain, he had also diarrhea which caused him to because dehydrated, we need to know what food he took, who gave him, this is not an easy issue,” he said.
He ruled out the investigation to be done in Jigjiga town where he died saying venue would be decided by the family.
“We call for investigation, the postmortem would be done at anyplace the family members agree, or where his burial takes place,” he said.
Late Galaydh who arrived in Jigjigo town late last Month was rushed to hospital a week ago after he complained breathing difficulties.
Galaydh served as prime minster of the Horn of Africa nation between 2000 and 2001.
