Qatar government handed over 30 new brand Toyota land cruisers to Somali government.
Security minister, Mohamed Abukar Islow and Qatar’s ambassador to Somalia, Hassan Hamse presided over the handing over ceremony that took place in Mogadishu.
Speaking at the ceremony, Islow said the vehicles would be used by Somali police to maintain law and order in and round the capital. The minister commended Qatar government for it is role to support .
“We thank the government of Qatar. In my recent visit to Qatar, I met the prime minister and also Interior minister, Sheikh Abdalla Abdinasir. He pledged to support Somalia. Today, We received 30 brand Toyota land cruisers which will be used by Somali police,” said Islow.
He noted that the government of Somalia expects Qatar to train Somali forces and above all provide scanners and metal detectors that will be installed at gates of the important government institutions so as to deter security threats.
Qatar and Somali federal government last year penned a $200 million infrastructure pact that will go towards the reconstruction of roads and government institutions
Qatar, a close ally of federal governs of Somalia has been operating in the country for more than a decade. Qatar Charity, a humanitarian organization has implemented over 200 developmental projects like schools, hospitals and provision of water through drilling of wells in the country.
