MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Federal Government of Somalia has received from the state of Qatar on Wednesday.
Officials from Doha handed over 68 armoured vehicles to Somali Defence minister, Hassan Ali Mohamed alias Amar Dambe and chief of the general staff, General Dahir Adan Elmi Indho Qarshe during a ceremony held at the Mogadishu port.
Defense minister, Hassan Ali Mohamed thanked the state of Qatar for the much-needed donation.
Qatari official, Mohamud Abdalla Al Ghazal said the contribution is part of his government support for the Federal Government of Somalia in its efforts fight terror in the country.
The move comes following the visit of top Doha defense officials in the country in the past week.
Senior military officials from the tiny rich gulf state nation had met with their counterparts in Somali armed forces on Wednesday and discussed close defence cooperation.
Doha developed an interest in Somalia since Mogadishu took a neutral stance on the Gulf blockade one year ago that saw Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain, and Egypt impose land, sea and air blockade on Qatar for claims of supporting terror.
