The government of Qatar has condoled with Somali people after a deadly blast hit a market in Southern Somalia on Wednesday.
A bomb blast at Khat market in Wanlaweyn town in the Lower Shabelle region, about 90 km (55 miles) to the northwest of the capital Mogadishu,
The explosion claimed over ten lives and injured more than 11 others.
In a statement by the foreign ministry, Qatar government condemned the bomb attack carried by Al-Shabab group.
“Qatar also voiced its strong condemnation of the attack in Somalia, leaving a number of people killed and injured,” reads the statement.
The Gulf Country denounced violence expressing support to fight against extremism.
“The Ministry for Foreign Affairs reiterated Qatar’s firm position rejecting violence and terrorism regardless of motives or reasons,” the statement said.
Qatar government wished a quick recovery for the victims of the attack.
“The Foreign Ministry expressed Qatar’s condolences to the families of the victims, the governments and people of Somalia and Afghanistan, wishing the injured a speedy recovery,” Qatar mourned.
Abdiasis Abu Musab, Al-Shabab’s military operation spokesman, said the group was behind the attack and that its target was the soldiers.
Al-Shabab is fighting to overthrow Somalia’s central government-backed by international community.
Since pushed out of Mogadishu in 2011, the group has intensified the attacks against institutions and public places in Mogadishu and other major towns in South and Central Somalia.
