MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Business and travel between Qatar and Somalia is expected to get a further boost with the planned resumption of direct commercial flights between the two capitals, Doha and Mogadishu, after over two decade break.
In a statement, the comapnay said Qatar Airways on Monday makes its first commercial flight between Doha and Mogadishu.
“QTR 1459 operating Airbus 320-232 is scheduled to fly three times a week via Djibouit,” reads the statement in part.
Last March, Akbar Al Baker, the CEO of Qatar Airways announced that the move will boost trade with Somalia and also caters for the demand of the route.
The move comes a time when Ethiopian national carrier took same decision to restart direct flights to Somalia.
After more than three decades, Ethiopian Airlines plane landed in Mogadishu last year.
Somalia and Ethiopia halted all flights in the 1970s after the two countries engaged in a deadly war over a border dispute.
