GALKA’AYO ( HALBEEG NEWS) – The commander of Puntland Presidential guards’ colonel Osman Omar Mohamed was killed in Galkayo in the Mudug region on Sunday.
Colonel Osman was commanding contingents of special forces that were conducting operations against heavily armed local militia in the central Somali city that is jointly administered by Puntland and Galmudug states.
The militia rejected calls to surrender their arms and vacate the building of a former factory in the city.
The youthful officer was recently promoted to lead the elite force that is responsible for the protection of the Puntland presidential palace and other important officials in the region.
