GAROWE (Halbeeg News) – The second annual Puntland Investment Forum brining together entrepreneurs locally and abroad opened today in Puntland’s administrative capital Garowe.
The forum which will run for three days aims to attract foreign direct investment(FDI) and domestic investors by presenting business opportunities and partnerships with the national private sectors.
Speaking at the forum, Puntland state leader, Said Abdullahi Deni told Puntland has vast investment opportunities to be tapped in various industries such as livestock, fishing, agriculture, tourism, mining and energy, real estate, education, health care, transport
“Puntland Government has set up the Investment policy which will enable you to Invest in Puntland in any sector and anywhere you interest,” Deni said.
He dispelled reports of insecurity saying Puntland state is secure and accommodate all investors across the world willing to invest the state.
” Everywhere in this world there is insecurity Puntland is part of the world, as a state will eliminate the remaining Alshabaab in Puntland, but I encourage to Invest, we will protect for all investors in short term and long term,” said Deni.
The forum was attended by dozens of entrepreneurs including locals and foreign investors from the country and outside world.
Riad M Alhureybi from Saudi Arabia who spoke at the forum said the Horn of Africa nation is pregnant with opportunities and has lucrative markets but need investors.
“Somalia is in dire need of funding, and it starts with small businesses so the country’s economy will grow. Somalia is filled with opportunities to invest,” said Riad.
The General manager of Toyata, Mr. Jim Finch who attended Puntland Investment Forum has pledged that the company will get branch in Puntland to serve new customers in the state.
“Toyata Will open a branch in Garowe soon, whereby we believe we can get manpower in the region,” he said.
The director of the Somali Chamber of Commerce Abdikatim Gabeyre has commended the role of entrepreneurs in developing the country saying the investor need to play their role to invest in Puntland market to enhance their entrepreneurship.
“Businessmen have saved this country and they can advance. So the government of Puntland can play it is role to make investment and development at right time,” Gabeyre told the participants.
