GAROWE(Halbeeg-News)-The Lawmakers of Puntland regional assembly have elected a new deputy president on Tuesday hours after a new president of the state was sworn in.
According to the electoral committee, Mr. Ahmed Elmi Osman Karash has secured 47 votes to won the last round, defeating his close challenger, Abdi Ibrahim Warsame who garnered 19 votes.
There were more than ten candidates that showed their interest in the position including the former Puntland deputy president, Abdihakim Omar Amey who didn’t manage to reach beyond the first round.
The new deputy president was former aviation minister in the regional cabinet of President Abdiweli Gaas.
During his brief speech after swearing in, Karash lauded the members of the regional parliament for electing him to be the deputy president of the state.
