Puntland Security agencies have been placed on high alert following credible intelligence that Al-Shabaab is planning to carry out attacks in Puntland areas.
Puntland police Chief, Farah Abdirahman Warsame said the group is plotting attacks in Garowe town.
Warsame noted that credible intelligence confirmed the group plans to attack Puntland state with Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED).
“We have credible intelligence suggesting that the group is planning to carry out further attacks in the Garowe town, we stepped up security checkpoints across the town,” he said.
He assured the public of tight security saying that the security forces are closely monitoring activities across the town in order to thwart any imminent attack.
“We assure the public that security agencies continue to remain on high alert and closely monitor the security of the border of the town ” he affirmed.
The official urged the public to be vigilant and to work with the law enforcement agencies.
“We are therefore urging members of the public to remain on high alert and be on extra vigilant,” he emphasised.
The group has in the past carried out attacks in Puntland towns and military barracks.
Early this month, heavily armed Al-shabab fighters stormed a military base in Bali-Khadar town manned by Puntland forces.
The sides engaged in hours of fighting that led to casualties on both Puntland and Al-Shabab forces.
Defense Ministry of Puntland displayed dozens of Suspected Al-Shabab fighters allegedly killed in the attack.
