BOSASO (Halbeeg News) – Forces of Puntland state in northeastern Somalia have recaptured a strategic village from Alshabaab fighters.
Af-urur village has been under the control of Al-Shabaab since last month when Puntland pulled out of their military in the villages.
Speaking to the media, the deputy commander of Puntland Derish forces, Abdi Ahmed Hashi said the forces of the state retook a village from Al-Shabaab early Friday morning.
“Early this morning we have successfully taken control of Af-urur village which we initially withdrew due to military tactics,” Mr. Hashi said.
He said his forces retook the area without a fight as Al-Shabaab fighter fled from the areas prior the raid.
“The enemy fled after they realised that we were heading to the village. There was no resistance, We entered the town on foot,” he stated.
Af-urur, 100 km (60 miles) south of Bosaso town is important as it is on the main road that links the cities of Garowe, Bosaso.
