GAROWE (Halbeeg News) – The Deputy deputy leader of Somalia’s Northeastern regional state, Puntland, Abdihakim Abdullahi Omar has opposed the move to cut ties with the federal government.
Speaking to the media, Mr. Omar said the decision by the heads of country’s member states will have an impact on country’s situation.
He stated that the outcome of the recent conference of inter-state Council Cooperation has no benefit for the people of Somalia.
“In fact, Somali people were enthusiastic about that conference but now it seems that they were shocked with the outcome of the conference,” he said.
He lauded Somali president call for an urgent meeting with Somali regional leaders.
his sentiment was also echoed by Galmudug’s deputy leader, Mohamed Hashi Arabey in an interview with VOA who said the objectives of the regional leaders was to team up against the federal government to lead the nation into another political crisis.
A communique from the meeting, the regional leaders announced the states had ceased cooperation with the federal government until Somali government accedes to their demands which include noninterference, funding support and riding security forces of political interference.
“From the perspective of the key elements of cooperation between the two parties, the Council suspended cooperation between the central government and the states,” the leaders said in the statement.
The regional presidents criticized the central government for failing in the fight against al-Shabab, saying there was no proper coordination between the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) troops and national security forces.
They also cited lack of tangible progress in the constitutional making process, saying Mogadishu has done little to ensure that the country holds a one-person-one-vote election in 2020.
