GAROWE (Halbeeg News) – Puntland state in northeastern Somalia has suspended efforts to open offices in several constituencies in the state by federal lawmakers and ministers.
The efforts to establish these offices were said to have been meant for building a bridging link between the politicians and people in their respective constituencies.
In a letter directed to security agencies seen by Halbeeg News, Puntland ministry for interior said that it will not allow the politicians to have offices in the state.
The notice further states that the move will be allowed until the federal government and its member states reach an agreement on the electoral modality in 2020.
“Federal Lawmakers and Ministers will not be allowed opening political offices in the State until a broad-based consensus on the electoral process is agreed by the federal government and its member regional states,” the notice reads in part.
The development comes days after several MPs including MP Jamal M. Hassan.
Jamal who is also Minister for planning and international cooperation last Saturday opened office for Constituency Relations and Services in Dahar District.
According to the minister, the office will serve as an important platform that will allow the lawmaker to directly engage with the community, address their concerns and contribute to its progress and development.
