MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Both Jubbaland and Puntland have heeded a call by Presidential candidates to withdraw civil servants from poll committees.
In a separate statement, leaders of Puntland and Jubbaland, Saed Abdullahi Deni and Ahmed Mohamed Madobe said they would reconsider reshuffling the team.
Jubbaland presidency said the list will be reviewed to respect the view of the candidates.
“After considering the request by the presidential candidates, we here confirmed the list Jubbaland representatives in electoral will be reviewed,” the statement reads in part.
On other side, Puntland expressed its commitment to review the list.
Puntland submitted names for Federal Elections Committee late last Month.
Late Sunday, Presidential candidates meeting in Mogadishu had called on the Federal Government and the two federal member states to withdraw civil servants and security agents they allegedly appointed to their respective electoral committees.
In a preliminary statement, the 12 opposition candidates said President Mohamed Farmaajo and the presidents of Jubbaland and Puntland should review the appointments and bring in new people.
The 12 leaders also reiterated their earlier demand on Farmaajo whom they accuse of packing the Federal Indirect Elections Team (FIET) with intelligence officials and senior civil servants.
