Consumers in Bardhere town of Somalia’s Gedo region have felt relieve after prices of vegetables and other farm products dropped following farm vintages.
Various farm products harvested recently have been supplied to the town’s market leading the prices to decrease.
The traders said the prices of vegetable like tomatoes, green pepper, onions and potatoes are expected to further go down in the upcoming days as bumper harvest reaches the market.
“Farmers have started harvesting their produce in their farms as the harvesting season began. The market now has good supply of farm products,” Naema Abdullahi, a trader who spoke to a local radio station said.
The traders get a 10 kg tin of tomatoes with $3 as fruits including banana pawpaw, mangoes and water melons sourced to the market also reach the market in bulky, according to Abdullahi.
The prices of the cereal including beans, Maize and millet have also dropped tremendously as a 100 kg bag of maize goes with 10 US dollars.
The farm products like maize, millet, beans, potatoes, bananas, guava, green pepper, mangoes, water melons, pawpaw and among others are sourced from the town’s irrigation fed farms alongside River Jubba.
