Mogadishu, (Halbeeg News) – Federal Government of Somalia president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has reiterated that Somalia will defend its Sovereignty and territorial integrity and that no foreign nation will occupy any part the country.
The president who spoke during an exclusive interview with Al Jazeera stated that Ethiopia’s move seeks to establish a military presence in Somalia’s waters and not a port.
“Ethiopia does not want a port; it seeks military power in the Red Sea, which is impossible. Somalia is fully aware of Ethiopia’s intentions and is prepared to resist any such moves that would compromise the country’s territorial integrity and independence,” President Mohamud told Al Jazeera.
Further, the president explained that Ethiopia’s strategy first seeks to establish a port and thereafter create a military base along Somalia’s coastline.
These actions, he noted, would violate both Somalia’s sovereignty and international law.
The President’s comments come as relations between Somalia and Ethiopia have become increasingly strained over geopolitical tensions involving the Red Sea, regional security, and Ethiopia’s ongoing concerns over Egypt’s influence in the Horn of Africa.
