MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has held talks with World Bank officials in Mogadishu as the country enhances to reform its economy.
In a statement, Villa Somalia said President Mohamud welcomed WorldBank Vice President for Eastern and Southern Africa, Victoria Kwakwa to the State House.
The president thanked the Bank for its strong engagement with the Somali government and reiterated the importance of scaling up its activities.
The officials also met with Somali Prime Minister Hamze Abdi Barre.
“I had a productive meeting with the World Bank Vice President for Eastern and Southern Africa Victoria Kwakwa. We discussed World Bank’s support towards #Somalia’s economic recovery through multi-sector development projects in the country,” the PM said in a Twitter post.
The PM thanked the World Bank for its support and reiterated Somalia’s commitment to economic reforms to meet the benchmarks of the HIPC Completion Point.
Vice President Kwakwa recognized the progress made towards that goal while expressing full support for the ongoing economic reforms.”
The meeting comes barely a month after President Mohamud noted that 2023 would be the year Somalia would complete the debt relief process.
