Mogadishu, (Halbeeg News) – Somalia’s president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud Wednesday chaired the opening ceremony of the country’s National Consultative Council (NCC) today at the Villa Somalia presidential palace in Mogadishu.
According to an official government statement, the meeting brings together leaders from the Federal Government and Federal Member States to address key national priorities.
The statement adds that the leaders will discuss ways of enhancing Somalia’s security, with a focus on intensifying operations against Al-Shabaab militants.
“The meeting focuses on accelerating the fight against Al-Shabaab, advancing the democratization process, and ensuring the implementation of prior agreements from the National Consultative Council,” a statement from the Villa Somalia Presidential Palace reads.
Other agenda items included advancing the democratization process, reviewing the implementation of previous NCC agreements, and building robust governance systems.
The leaders also discuss the importance of strengthening cooperation between the Federal Government and the Member States to promote peace and sustainable development across the nation.
Among the notable attendees were Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, Deputy Prime Minister Salah Jama, President Ahmed Mohamed Islam (Madoobe) of Jubbaland, President Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed (Laftagareen) of South West State, President Ahmed Abdi Kariye of Galmudug, President Ali Abdullahi Hussein (Guudlawe) of Hirshabelle, and Benadir Governor Yusuf Hussein Jima’le (Madaale).
